David Scharf
Founder and Managing Partner
David Scharf is an accomplished executive with experiences spanning from running his family business, working on Wall Street, to founding Esplanade Capital. As founder and managing partner of Esplanade Capital, he leverages his diverse investing and operational expertise to lead an investment firm that is both experienced and entrepreneurial.
Prior to founding the company, Mr. Scharf served as managing partner of Esplanade Group – the real estate dynasty founded by his grandfather for which the Scharf family is renowned – and worked in the real estate investment banking arm of Credit Suisse First Boston before launching Esplanade Capital in 2004. Mr. Scharf and his company have developed, acquired, managed, and repositioned a variety of trophy real estate and healthcare assets. He has also built an impressive portfolio of investments in privately held companies.
Mr. Scharf graduated from the NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business with honors where he earned his MBA with an emphasis on finance, and is currently serving on NYU’s real estate advisory board. Mr. Scharf is also involved in various communal activities and is active in numerous charitable organizations.
Joe Kaufman
Chief Financial Officer
Joe Kaufman has been with Esplanade Capital since inception and currently serves as its Chief Financial Officer where he brings more than twenty years of financial management experience to the company. Joe has played a key role in Esplanade’s expansion and continues to serve as a catalyst to spur growth using his strong analytical, financial, and operational skills.
Joe oversees the financial operations, including risk management, deal analysis, budgeting, and P&L analysis. He has implemented significant cost cutting strategies across Esplanade’s operations. Joe graduated with honors from Adelphi University’s School of Management and Business in 1998.

Moshe Watson
VP of Acquisitions
Moshe Watson has served as VP of Acquisitions for Esplanade Capital since 2019, where he focuses on sourcing, analyzing, and underwriting new investment opportunities. Moshe utilizes his diverse investment experience to shape Esplanade’s investment strategy and is tasked with analyzing a wide array of opportunities.
Prior to joining Esplanade, Moshe spent five years as a key member of the L3C Capital Partners acquisition team, where he was involved in all aspects of the investment life cycle. During his tenure at L3C, Moshe was critical to the firm’s growth, acquiring more than $1BN of real estate.
Moshe graduated from Yeshiva University’s Sy Syms School of Business with a B.S. in accounting as part of their Honors Program. He also obtained rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University’s affiliated RIETS.
